Indonesia By Train exists because the sites that sell train tickets have no incentive to tell you when the cheap option is the better one.

An aggregator will happily sell you an eksekutif berth on an overnight run you are going to sleep through. It will not mention that the newer-generation ekonomi carriages on the same service are perfectly comfortable and half the price, or that the Bandung to Yogyakarta morning departure is worth rearranging an itinerary around, or that Gambir and Pasar Senen are two different stations in Jakarta serving two different classes of train.

That is the gap this site fills.

Every route page shows fare bands, not fixed prices. KAI adjusts fares by season, by subclass and by demand, so a precise figure published today is misleading within weeks. A band tells you what a journey roughly costs, which is the thing you actually need when planning.

Each page also carries the date the fares were last checked. If that date looks old, treat the numbers with suspicion — and tell us.

We do not publish live timetables. Indonesian schedules change with each GAPEKA revision and any timetable we hosted would be wrong within months. Journey times here are ranges across the services on a route; check exact departures with KAI when you book.

We do not sell tickets and take no commission from anyone who does.

Rail networks change. Lines open, services are withdrawn, and station arrangements shift. If something here is wrong or out of date, we would rather know.
