Surabaya to Probolinggo by Train

Probolinggo sits about 100km east of Surabaya and is the standard jumping-off point for Mount Bromo. The train takes under two and a half hours and costs a fraction of a private transfer.

From Probolinggo station, local minibuses run to Cemoro Lawang on the Bromo caldera rim, where most visitors stay before the pre-dawn sunrise trip. Allow time — the minibuses often wait to fill, and the mountain road takes a further two hours.
