Yogyakarta Airport to Yogyakarta by Train

Forty minutes from YIA into central Yogyakarta — essential, because the new airport is a long way from the city.

Yogyakarta Airport to Yogyakarta by Train

Yogyakarta International Airport opened at Kulon Progo, roughly 40km west of the city, replacing the far more convenient Adisutjipto. The rail link is what makes that distance manageable.

Trains run from a station adjacent to the terminal to Yogyakarta Tugu in the city centre, taking around 40 minutes. Road transfers cover the same route in an hour or more depending on traffic.

Practical note: the service is timed around flight banks rather than running continuously, so check departures against your arrival time. If you land during a gap, the alternative is a taxi or the slower Kulon Progo commuter connection.

Tugu station puts you within walking distance of Malioboro and most of the central accommodation. It is also the departure point for services to Jakarta, Solo and Surabaya, so a same-day connection onward is straightforward.
