Jakarta to Purwokerto by Train

Five hours to the junction town where the southern line meets the hills — the gateway to Baturraden and the point where the scenery starts.
Which class to book
Purwojaya in eksekutif for a daytime run — the last hour into the hills is the best part.
Jakarta to Purwokerto by Train

Purwokerto sits about 360km from Jakarta and marks the transition on the southern line from coastal plain to genuine hill country. Most Yogyakarta and Solo services stop here, giving good frequency.

The town itself is modest but it is the access point for Baturraden on the slopes of Mount Slamet, and it functions as a useful junction — services split here towards Yogyakarta and towards Bandung.

Which trains run this route: Purwojaya is the dedicated eksekutif service from Gambir. Every southern-line train to Yogyakarta, Solo and Surabaya also calls here.

The approach from the west is the first properly interesting stretch of the southern line, running through cuttings and over river bridges as the land begins to rise. If you are taking a daytime service further east, this is roughly where it becomes worth putting the phone down.
