Jakarta to Cirebon by Train

Under three hours to the batik city on the north coast — the shortest genuinely useful intercity run out of Jakarta, and a viable day trip.
Which class to book
Ekonomi. Under three hours, and the frequency means you should optimise for departure time rather than class.
Jakarta to Cirebon by Train

Cirebon is about 220km east of Jakarta and reachable in two and a half to three hours. Because every eastbound northern service passes through, frequency is exceptionally high — this is one of the few Indonesian routes where you can turn up and reasonably expect a train.

That makes it the best day trip from Jakarta by rail. Leave early, spend the day among the batik workshops of Trusmi and the sultan's palaces, and return the same evening.

Which trains run this route: Argo Cheribon is the dedicated service. Beyond it, essentially every Semarang and Surabaya train on the northern line stops here, along with several southern-line services heading towards Purwokerto.

Cirebon has two stations. Kejaksan is the main one and centrally placed. Prujakan handles most ekonomi services and is less convenient. Check which one your ticket shows before booking a hotel.
