Roughly 390km south from Kertapati in Palembang to Tanjungkarang in Bandar Lampung, taking eight and a half to ten hours. Most travellers take it overnight.
This is the route towards Java. Tanjungkarang is the southern end of the network, and from Bandar Lampung the ferry port at Bakauheni connects across the Sunda Strait to Merak in West Java. Combining this train with that crossing is the classic overland route from southern Sumatra to Java.
Which trains run this route: Rajabasa is the ekonomi day service, very cheap and correspondingly basic. Sriwijaya runs overnight with better accommodation, and Limex Sriwijaya offers an upgraded option.
Allow for the Palembang end. Kertapati station sits across the Musi river from the city centre, so factor in the transfer when planning your departure rather than assuming the station is central.
Journey times vary by service and season. Confirm against current schedules before booking.
Indicative bands only. KAI adjusts fares by season and subclass, so treat these as a guide to the order of magnitude rather than a quote.
