Whoosh High-Speed: Jakarta to Bandung

Whoosh opened in October 2023 and runs from Halim in east Jakarta to Tegalluar and Padalarang, covering 142km at an operating speed of 350km/h. Journey time is around 40 minutes against roughly three hours on the conventional line.

It is a separate system. Whoosh is operated by KCIC, a joint venture, not by KAI. Different stations, different booking platform, different ticketing. You cannot book it through the KAI app and it does not connect to conventional services except by transfer.

The station problem. Neither end is central. Halim is in east Jakarta, well away from the city centre, and Tegalluar sits outside Bandung with a shuttle connection onward. Add transfer time at both ends and the 40-minute headline figure becomes closer to ninety minutes door to door.

Extensions: proposals to continue the line to Surabaya, and further to Banyuwangi, have been discussed repeatedly. As of 2026 nothing has been committed — the government has said the operator's financing must be resolved before extension planning proceeds.
