The Batara Kresna links Wonogiri, in the hills of south-eastern Central Java, with Solo, 37km to the north, in about an hour. It ends at Purwosari station on the west side of Solo, not at Solo Balapan, and the last stretch runs down the middle of Jalan Slamet Riyadi, the city's main street, alongside the traffic.
Timetable: there are only two departures a day. Trains leave Wonogiri at 08:00 and 12:00, calling at Pasar Nguter, Sukoharjo and Solo Kota (around 08:40 / 12:40) and arriving at Purwosari at 09:00 and 13:00 (detikJateng, July 2026, from Access by KAI; also Tribun Travel, September 2026). Southbound trains reach Wonogiri at 07:00 and 11:00, so if you are staying in Solo the usual plan is down in the morning and back on one of these.
Fare and tickets: a flat Rp 4,000. This is a subsidised pioneer (perintis) service with one class and limited seats, so buy a day ahead in Access by KAI or at the station counter, particularly for the 12:00, which is the last train of the day.
The train: a KRD MCW 302 diesel multiple unit has run the service since February 2025, replacing the original railbus and cutting the journey from about two hours to one.
Onward connections: Purwosari is also a stop on the KRL to Yogyakarta, and some long-distance trains call there too. For main-line departures east or west, it is a short ride to Solo Balapan. Get off at Solo Kota if you are heading for the old town and the kraton.
For the outward trip, see Solo to Wonogiri.
Journey times vary by service and season. Confirm against current schedules before booking.
Indicative bands only. KAI adjusts fares by season and subclass, so treat these as a guide to the order of magnitude rather than a quote.
