Other Java Departures

Java's smaller railway towns, each worth knowing if your itinerary passes through. Cirebon on the north coast is a batik centre and the shortest genuinely useful run out of Jakarta. Purwokerto marks the point where the southern line climbs into the hills and is the gateway to Baturraden. Probolinggo is the standard jumping-off point for Mount Bromo. Banyuwangi matters most of all: Ketapang station sits beside the ferry terminal for Bali, making the island reachable from Java entirely by public transport.
