Jember, in the Tapal Kuda region of East Java, has two direct eksekutif trains a day to Jakarta Gambir, the Pandalungan and, since 18 June 2026, Pandalungan 2. The run is about 919km: north-west past Probolinggo and Pasuruan to Surabaya, then along the northern line through Bojonegoro, Cepu, Semarang, Pekalongan, Tegal and Cirebon into Jakarta.
Which trains run this route: Pandalungan 2 leaves Jember at 09:05 and reaches Gambir at 22:03, calling at Rambipuji, Tanggul, Klakah, Probolinggo, Pasuruan, Bangil, Sidoarjo, Surabaya Gubeng, Surabaya Pasarturi, Lamongan, Bojonegoro, Cepu, Ngrombo, Semarang Tawang, Pekalongan, Tegal, Cirebon, Cikarang and Jatinegara. The original Pandalungan leaves Jember in the afternoon (16:00 under KAI's current timetable) and runs overnight, arriving in Jakarta early the next morning. Both are eksekutif trains, and the Pandalungan also carries a Priority coach. The Blambangan Ekspres, coming through from Ketapang, also calls at Jember in the evening and runs overnight to Pasar Senen, with eksekutif and new-generation ekonomi seats.
Which one to book: the afternoon Pandalungan if you want to sleep and arrive at the start of a Jakarta day; Pandalungan 2 if you would rather travel in daylight and reach Gambir by mid-evening. The Blambangan Ekspres is the cheaper choice if you are happy in ekonomi.
Arriving in Jakarta: the Pandalungan trains end at Gambir, next to Monas, and also call at Jatinegara in the east of the city; the Blambangan Ekspres ends at Pasar Senen. From Gambir you can carry on to Soekarno-Hatta Airport by the airport rail link from Manggarai or BNI City.
